 AF i-Fold

The i-Fold offers most of the functionality of a conventional coil line with the advantage of a vastly reduced floor space requirement (6ft 6in x 10ft).
The i-Fold allows the operator to use standard coil widths, in multiple gauges up to 16ga, and manufacture ductwork from a minimum of 5in x 5in.

The fully hydraulic system is controlled by the AutoFold v8 Control System that has been designed specifically for this machine. The input is through a dedicated 14in touch screen controller that utilizes a Windows™ CE platform to run the AutoFold Standard Software Program.

The AutoFold Standard Software includes a Jobs Program.
Ductwork is produced at an average rate of 1 piece every 20 seconds (depending on the size of the duct). The i-Fold retains the same production rate as the larger AutoFold machines.

The i-Fold is installed by the customer as the machine is shipped complete and requires only one 3-phase power supply. No air is required. (Installation is available as an option).

Years ago when Coil lines were priced over $250,000 the conception was that in order to justify a coil line you had to run 500,000 lbs of metal or more each year to justify the purchase. When we started to bring in and sell the AutoFold / i-Fold coil lines over 25 years ago we took a different look at the justification and We think it is impossible for any HVAC sheet metal company NOT to justify our small i-Fold or i-Fold Side Eject coil line. In our mind the pounds of metal a company runs each year is really not a good justification, what we feel everyone should look at is how many times does your sheet metal mechanic have to handle each piece of duct in the fabrication process.
Look over the numbers below and see if you come up with the same number of steps? Even if we missed the numbers of steps you currently take by 20% the savings is still easily justifiable. Most small duct fabricators, fabricate duct sections by hand in 4' and 5-ft sections with the following equipment
1> Foot Shear 2> Notching (Manually with Snips or with a 3 Head Power Notcher)
3> Cross Brake (or Bead with a Duct Beader)
4> Drive Cleat Turner (Manual or Power)
5> Pittsburgh Rollforming Machine (many use snap lock)
6> Hand Brake
PLEASE don't get caught up in the actual production rate of our small i-Fold Coil Line as compared to a faster more expensive coil line. Consider the steps you manually, now consider just how much duct our small lines can produce in a day.  Why spend more on a "faster" coil line when the production rates offered on the i-fold will leave the machine setting ideal for most of a day even with production rates of 1,000,000 lbs a year or more! (THINK ABOUT IT)
For this example we based the total number of handlings on a 100 ft Duct Run! Manaul VS i-Fold using your Pittsburgh and your Cleat Bender.
Based on manually fabricated straight duct your sheet metal mechanic will touch every piece of duct 34 Times, if you produce 100 ft of duct that is 850 Handlings based on 4-ft sections. (100 ft of 4ft duct sections = 25 duct sections x 34 handlings each =850 Handlings) (See steps below)
Using the i-Fold you are going to produce 5-ft duct and you now handle 100-ft of duct 200 times, that is 650 less handlings. (650 times LESS handling!!!) 100 ft of 5ft duct sections = 20 duct sections x 10 handlings each = 200 Handlings) Also take in to consideration. Going to 5 ft duct sections over 4-ft will save you one joint of duct every 20 ft, which saves in handling, install labor, S & Drives/TDF/Ductmate, gasket and assembly labor.
When you purchase metal you will buy ACTUAL WEIGHT AND NOMINAL THICKNESS, this means you get more linear footage out of a coil, which means more duct out of a coil.
You can now also run blanks for your plasma which will reduce your scrap; you run exact sheet lengths out to put on the plasma, Not 120" Sheet each time that produces a small drop at the end of each nest, you now take the nest print out from your plasma and produce exact cut lengths to match the nest, maybe 102" or 72" whatever the nest requires.
